Nanofilter Water Systems

NanoFilter Water Systems is a groundbreaking solution developed by Tanzanian senior lecturer and chemical engineer, Professor Askwar Hilonga, after witnessing the devastating effects of waterborne diseases in his village of Gongali. Prof. Hilonga designed integrated water filters using customizable nano-materials to remove turbidity, contaminants, and heavy metals like fluoride, ensuring the filtered water meets WHO standards for drinking water. These filters can purify up to 1200 liters per day without electricity, making them ideal for rural and urban areas with limited access to clean water.

Gongali Model, the company behind these filters, was co-founded by Ruth Lukwaro, who serves as CEO. Ruth has 15 years of experience in business management and played a crucial role in taking the Nanofilter from a university lab to the market. Her efforts have led to a 42.9% reduction in waterborne diseases in the Arusha region and created jobs for 127 people, mostly women and youth. Ruth’s leadership and dedication have impacted over 300,000 people, making her a role model for many in underserved communities.

In addition to providing clean water solutions, Gongali Model offers biogas services, entrepreneurship training, and accommodation through Nano Filter House. With over 10 years of experience, Gongali Model has trained more than 3000 entrepreneurs in Tanzania, focusing on females, empowering them to tackle water accessibility issues. The Gongali Entrepreneurship Program combines expert guidance, water solutions training, business development skills, networking opportunities, and ongoing support, creating a movement dedicated to providing clean and safe water across Tanzania.
