Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality
The Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality is a fundraising project with the goal of raising $3,000 to bring clean water to a community in Tanzania, while also empowering women.
The goal of this project is simple, yet powerful: raise $3,000 to purchase a Nanofilter water centre that will be installed in a secondary school or orphanage in Tanzania. This water centre will provide up to 1,200 liters of clean water per day, benefiting the local community by reducing waterborne illnesses and improving health and education outcomes for children. Along with this, we will hire a female entrepreneur to manage the water centre, offering her a living wage of up to $40 CAD per day and entrepreneurship training.

What We Hope to Achieve
The Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality aims to achieve the following goals over the next 28 days:
- Empower women by employing a female entrepreneur with a living wage.
- Improve health by providing clean water and reducing waterborne diseases.
- Support the local economy through entrepreneurship training and job creation.
- Help the environment by reducing plastic waste.
- Raise awareness about the importance of clean water, gender equality, and sustainable development.
Why This Project Matters
In many developing countries, especially in rural areas like Tanzania, access to clean water is a daily struggle. Women and children often have to walk 6 km (the average round-trip distance) every day just to grab water. This not only takes time away from school and work but also puts their health at risk. Waterborne diseases are a major issue, affecting children’s ability to learn and grow. This project is about changing lives for women, for children, and for entire communities.
By bringing clean water to these communities, we aim to reduce waterborne diseases, empower women to become entrepreneurs, and provide opportunities for a better life. We also want to tackle environmental problems, such as the overuse of single-use plastics, by providing a sustainable water filtration solution.

How You Can Help
From April 11 to May 9, I will be running or walking 6 km every day, the average distance women and children in Tanzania walk for water each day. I’ll be tracking my runs using a fitness app, sharing daily updates on social media, and encouraging others to support the cause. I’m hoping to raise $3,000 to purchase and install a Nanofilter water center, but if we raise more, it will go directly to reinvesting the women involved in the project.
I’ll also be organizing a bottle drive to raise additional funds, collecting recyclable bottles from the community and donating the proceeds to this initiative. Stay tuned for updates on how you can help with this.
The Impact
By supporting this project, you’re not just helping provide clean water, you are also empowering women and improving health outcomes for children. The Nanofilter water centre will provide up to 1,200 liters of clean water each day, which will be a lifeline for the community. The female entrepreneur who runs the centre will be given not only a steady income but also valuable training that will help her develop her business and make a lasting impact on her community.
If we exceed our fundraising goal, any extra funds will be reinvested into the project to continue empowering women and improving the lives of families in the community.
