Day 14 – A Sister Walk and A Happy Heart

2–3 minutes

Today was Day 14 of my Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality, and it was honestly one of the best days yet, because my sister, Sarah, came home from university where she is studying Ocean Sciences! She flew in all the way from Newfoundland for the summer, and I couldn’t be happier to have her back!

As soon as she got home, we had dinner with our family including our grandparents, and then laced up our shoes and headed out for today’s 6km walk together. We wandered around town, catching up on everything: school, life, random drama, and lots of laughing. It felt so good to walk side by side after months of only FaceTime calls and texts. There’s something about walking and talking with someone you love that makes everything feel a little lighter. It’s not that I don’t love the walks and talks with my parents – I do – but in our family, the bond between us – the four siblings – is so strong.

Even though this project is focused on raising money and awareness for clean water and gender equality in Tanzania, today reminded me that it’s also about connection. Whether it’s walking with my family here at home or thinking about the families on the other side of the world who walk every day just to access water, we’re all human. We all need support, love, and someone to walk with, literally and figuratively.

In Tanzania, many girls don’t get to walk beside their sisters for fun, they walk together for survival. They carry heavy buckets for kilometres, missing school and risking their health, just to get water that almost always isn’t clean. That’s why I’m doing this project; to help change that story.

I feel incredibly lucky that my walk today was filled with laughter, memories, and the comfort of having my sister back at home with me. But I also have come to realize that for too many sisters, walking means something completely different. My goal is to change that.

Thank you for being here and following along with me. Every donation counts, every step counts, and walking with people you love makes the journey even more meaningful.
