Today was Day 12 of my Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality, and I celebrated Earth Day by running my 6km in Victoria Park. Even though it was raining, the park was absolutely beautiful, fresh, green, and full of life. The rain actually made everything feel more peaceful and alive, like nature was reminding me what this day is really about.
Running through the park today made me think a lot about how everything in our world is connected. The trees, the rivers, the rain, the people, everything depends on a healthy planet. And that’s exactly why clean water is such a big deal. Without it, ecosystems break down, people get sick, and communities can’t grow or thrive.
Earth Day is a reminder that we need to take care of the planet, but it’s also about taking care of each other. Access to clean water is at the center of both.
Right now, so many families in Tanzania don’t have access to safe water. That means they have to rely on rivers or dirty wells that often make them sick. Not only is that dangerous, but it also affects the environment, because when there’s no proper water system, people sometimes have to cut down trees for firewood to boil water, or use plastic bottles to carry water over long distances.
When we install a Nanofilter Water Center, we’re not just giving people clean water, we’re also helping reduce waste, improve sanitation, and protect natural water sources. These centers are solar-powered and are built using safe technology. Customers are encouraged to purchase water at a reduced cost if they are using their own refillable containers, which helps cut down on the consumption of single-use plastics, which is huge when it comes to fighting pollution and protecting the environment.
Today’s run wasn’t just about checking off another 6km. It was about running for something bigger: for the planet, for women & girls, for healthy communities, and for a future where clean water and sanitation is a right, not a privilege.
Even with the rain soaking through my clothes and my shoes squishing by the end, I felt really grateful. Grateful for clean air, green spaces, and the ability to run freely. Grateful I have the privilege to be taking action and doing something small to protect the Earth and help others live healthier lives.
I’m getting closer to my goal of raising enough money to purchase a NanoFilter Water Center, which will provide clean water and empower a female entrepreneur and her family through employment. Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference and helps me get one step closer to achieving this important goal. If you are able to contribute, your support would be greatly appreciated!
