I want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who’s already donated to the Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality! Your support means so much, and I can’t wait to keep making a difference together!
As part of my project, I’m hosting a bottle drive to raise funds outside of donations to contribute toward purchasing a Nanofilter Water Centre in Tanzania. All proceeds from this bottle drive will go directly toward this purchase, which will provide clean, safe water for a community in need, along with living-wage employment for a female entrepreneur.
This bottle drive is important because it helps reduce the environmental impact of single-use plastics, which harm our planet. It’s a simple way for us to do something good for both people and the Earth!
If you have any refundable bottles or cans, I’d love to take them off your hands! The Bottle Drive will happen on Saturday, April 26th, and I will be available to pick up any refundables in the Truro area. Please send me a message either in the comments, or through a private message on my Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality Facebook page.
I’ve also set up an account at the Subway Bottle Exchange at 25 Pictou Road in Bible Hill under the name “Happiness Run”. If you’re ever there recycling your refundable containers, you can direct your refund directly into this account. This is an easy way to keep supporting the project!
This initiative ties together two important United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG #6 Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG #12 Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns. The NanoFilter Water Centre will help to reduce the number of single-use plastics in the environment, and this bottle drive will help do the same here at home. By supporting these goals, we are contributing to a healthier planet and better living conditions for communities in need.
Thank you again for all your support, whether it’s through donations or by liking and sharing my social media! We’re one step closer to making a big change in Tanzania and helping bring clean water, economic opportunities, and gender equality to those who need it most. I’m so excited for what’s to come! 🙌🌍
(When I meet with Ruth from NanoFilter online, I will find out what happens if the women are injured or develop arthritis to answer my dad’s question. Today’s 6km was a run with Lyra while my dad biked with us. Stay tuned!)
