Day 4 of the Happiness Run for Clean Water and Gender Equality – at the gym

2–3 minutes

Today, I ran at the gym because it was rainy outside and the temperature felt like -9°C. BRRRRR! I have a gym membership to ensure I stay strong both on and off the ice when I’m curling competitively. While running on the treadmill, I reflected on how fortunate I am. If I were a girl in Tanzania responsible for fetching water for my family, I wouldn’t have the luxury of adjusting my commitments based on the weather because my family would need water to survive regardless of how hot, cold, or rainy it is.

Tonight’s blog is a bit shorter because I still have homework to finish. Tomorrow I’ll share more about the NanoFilter Water Centre we’re supporting through this project. This initiative will employ a woman in Tanzania with a living wage, help reduce waterborne illnesses, and also significantly contribute to the reduction of single-use plastics in the environment.

My mom is helping to connect me with Ruth, the CEO of NanoFilter, to have an interview soon. I’m really looking forward to learning more about how she and her husband turned their passion for clean water and gender equality into a business that helps so many communities.

I will plan my day more efficiently and aim to run outside tomorrow. I’ve been arranging for some running and walking partners to join me throughout the 21 days of the Happiness Run, so keep an eye out for guest appearances. If you’d like to walk or run with me, please reach out and we’ll arrange a time and place!

I’ve set up an account at the recycling depot on Pictou Road in Bible Hill. If anyone in the Truro area has refundable containers they are recycling, they can ask to have their refund donated to the “Happiness Run.” Additionally, I’m holding a bottle drive in the Truro area on Saturday, April 26. I’ll share more details on that in the coming days.

Thank you so much for the generous donations which are coming in to help me reach my goal of raising $3000 over three weeks to purchase a Nanofilter Water Center! Every bit helps!! If you’re unable to contribute financially, liking and sharing my Facebook page and blog posts to reach a wider audience is also incredibly helpful!
